What is the composite resin matrix?
In composite materials, the role of the matrix is to support the fibers and glue them together, as well as maintain the direction and position of the fibers. A good matrix material can transmit as much external load as possible to the fibers. The matrix also determines the environmental resistance and maximum service temperature of the composite material.
In the longest thermosetting resin based composite material, the matrix is referred to as polyester resin. The curing process is simply the crosslinking reaction of the prepolymer, and once the reaction is completed, the polymer will completely cure.
