No, because the gel coat has long-term contact with seawater. When talcum powder is used as a thickener, it will increase the water absorption of the repair area and reduce the seawater permeability resistance. At the same time, excessive talcum powder may exacerbate the color inconsistency of the gel coat, which is clearly not a wise choice.
The alternative is to add glass fiber powder or use white carbon black (fumed silica) to thicken the gel coat gel coating. Of course, using talcum powder thickened resin for local repair of internal layers is feasible and the most commonly used temporary method.
